Another Beach Weekend

We headed to Capitola again this weekend. It was nice to escape the heat and smoke - we are getting a lot of smoke from fires in California right now. The beach was perfect as usual.

We had a great surf session at Cowell's in SC. Cory and I took turns surfing so Brock could play on the beach. Next time I want to get him in a wet suit and life vest and catch some waves with him. There were some small kids doing that with their parents and they were LOVING it!

Courtney, Arthur and Cory headed out.

We went to the pool everyday and Brock really made progress with his swimming. He will jump in, go under water, and do a little doggy paddle up to me. There was a private lesson going on at the pool - so I stole some free tips :)

We went on a double date with Arthur and his girlfriend, Courtney. This weekend was the first time we were able to hang out with Courtney and we sure love getting to know her. We went to a cool restaurant in downtown and then wondered the streets - we had a blast.

Giving Mama a big hug!

Trying on Arthur's shoes.

Last night Brock decided to put his apple sauce on his head - Mom was not amused, but Brock found this to be hilarious!

“Mama GG’s House”

We spent the last week in Grand Rapids Michigan for a reunion of sorts. We got to visit with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandma, grandpa and great grandma (GG). We spent almost every day hanging out at “Mama GG’s House”, as Brock says, and just having a grand old time visiting, eating and capturing MANY pictures. It was a great vacation for us because Brock had lots to do. Besides chasing around his older cousins, the experienced Grandma’s (Cory’s Aunts) had houses stocked with toys for him. Really we got the ROYAL treatment – thank you! We sure wish we lived closer to you all!

The last two days we headed to Chicago for the wedding of Cory’s best buddy from high school and college. We had a blast seeing some old friends and dancing the night away to Arabic music. While we were in Chicago (which is the coolest city!) we taught Brock to say, “I’m in Chicago”, but he said it, “I’m in Cago”. He couldn’t say the “Chi” part. Every time we left the hotel room he would proudly announce, “I’m in Cago”!

At the zoo with Nana. Brock loved the zoo. As you know he can communicate well with all the animals! His favorite was the monkeys.

Cograts Cory!

Yesterday was the ribbon cutting ceremony for the VA's New Emergency Room - Built by Cory! It was a very proud moment for all of us and especially him. He was the project manager for this job which has consumed his life for over a year now. The end product - a beautiful, state of the art medical building - VERY IMPRESSIVE! He got many accolades from staff and officials for his impressive work and, of course, they love him because he is just a great guy to work with and know (fairly rare in the construction world I think). Anyways, the ceremony was fun, Governor Gibbons was there along with lots of media. I took many pictures and when I finally snagged the Governor for a picture with Cory and Brock - well you can see the picture for yourself below. I totally blew it!! Anyways, congratulations Cory! Thank you for being the amazing Dad and person that you are!

Trying out the waiting room.

Cory, Brock and Gov. Gibbons. I swear it really is them!

Blog Slacker

Sorry, I've slacked on the blog a little. We have been busy as usual, but having fun as usual. Last weekend we went to Capitola and it was perfect-o! Brock LOVES the beach and even got on a surfboard for the first time. Cory was out surfing with my brother and friends and they got surrounded by a pod of dolphins, within arms reach. It was crazy to watch, and amazing for Cory to experience. I will try to get some surf session video up.

We had some rainy days a couple weeks ago and Brock really enjoyed wearing his rain boots.

First ride in the Canoe.

Running down the beach - fast!

Cory and my Dad did some surf fishing, but all they caught was seaweed.

Checking out the tide pools.

Brock had to climb in this little boat statue on my parents porch! What a cute naked sailor!
